Whether you’re a busy parent looking for a quick after-school snack or a health-conscious individual seeking a sweet treat without the guilt, these banana chips are the perfect solution.

Why This Recipe Works

  • The combination of granulated sugar and cinnamon creates a crunchy, caramelized exterior that complements the natural sweetness of the bananas.
  • Using a mandoline or sharp knife to slice the bananas ensures even cooking and a crispy texture.
  • The addition of a hint of vanilla extract enhances the overall flavor profile without overpowering the other ingredients.

Key Ingredients

When it comes to selecting the perfect bananas, look for ones that are slightly greener than you’d typically choose for eating fresh. This will ensure they hold their shape during the cooking process. For more tips on selecting the perfect ingredients, check out our guide to pantry staples.

To ensure the cinnamon sugar mixture adheres evenly to the banana slices, make sure to use a high-quality granulated sugar and freshly ground cinnamon. You can also experiment with different spice combinations, such as adding a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom for added depth.

Yield:
4 Servings

Ingredients

3-4 ripe bananas

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Baking sheet lined with parchment paper

Directions

1
Preheat your oven to 200°F (90°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

2
In a shallow dish, mix together the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

3
Slice the bananas into 1/8-inch thick rounds. You should end up with around 12-15 slices.

4
Dip each banana slice into the melted butter, coating both sides evenly, then roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat. Place the coated banana slice on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining banana slices.

5
Bake the banana slices for 2-3 hours, or until crispy and golden brown. Flip the slices halfway through the cooking time. Remove from the oven and let cool completely on the baking sheet.

Storage & Reheating

Once the banana chips have cooled, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 24 hours. To reheat, simply place the banana chips in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until crispy. Enjoy!
